Hi all! So this week I am in Miami, visiting family and friends. The nice thing about running a business is being able to work from wherever! My cousin Naureen and I have been super close since we were kids and have been there for each other through every major milestone in our lives. This trip to Miami was my first time back since she gave birth to her daughter. As I was watching her in her new role as a mom, I reminisced on our memories together when we were littles girls playing doll house and dress up, as teenagers talking about high school dances and celebrity crushes and now as adults, starting our careers, getting married and wanting to start a family. I
decided I wanted to ask her some questions and learn about her experiences thus far as a first time mom! Read below.
1. Did you have a good pregnancy? Best part, hardest part?
Had a great pregnancy – best part was feeling the baby kick, baby moving – hardest part – heartburn, fatigue, difficulty sleeping comfortably
2. What advice would you give to other women that are pregnant?
Enjoy every week, eat healthy, be positive and be organized. There is no right way to manage your pregnancy so do what works for you and at your pace.
3. Is organic cotton/organic products important to you?
Yes, my daughter’s skin is very sensitive. She has eczema and organic cotton and organic products are gentle on her skin.
4. How was your husband during your pregnancy?
He was really great – he was supportive, calming, nurturing – always by my side.
5. Biggest fears about being a mom?
Fear of the unknown. I want to raise a good human being who makes a positive impact on society. I want to raise my daughter to be a kind person to all those around her and be an independent and strong lady.
6. Was your husband helpful or a hindrance after the few weeks giving birth?
Most helpful! He had five nieces and nephews prior to the birth of our daughter that he helped raise - so knew exactly what to do to be helpful. He even bathed my daughter right away and changed almost all diapers.
7. What is your biggest pet peeve about being a parent?
The mess!
8. Is there anything in particular that you miss about your life prior to becoming a parent?
Stressless sleep.
9. Most rewarding thing about being a mom?
Watching my mini me grow, flourish, became her own individual and embracing the all the love and hope that she brings into our lives. She brings out a positive side of me that I did not I had. Her smile and happiness brings me peace.
10. Funniest thing your daughter does?
She walks around with my purse and keys and blows kisses and waves goodbye as she pretends to walk out the door.
11. Most common food craving? Most unusual?
Most common: Caesar Salad and McDonald ice cream McFlurry
Most unusual: Spicy cheetos with side of cold orange juice
12. Did you have any preconceived thoughts about labor?
Yes – thought it would be easy – not as painful – thought it would be quick!
13. How was your labor experience?
Painful but smooth. I was initially scared of what the beginning stage of labor would be like. I originally planned to not take any pain medication or epidural but all that changed as contractions started, however nothing compares to this experience but it’s the most rewarding at the end and worth
it.
14. Any advice for future moms?
Be patient, be positive, be hopeful. Becoming a mother is the most rewarding role. Everything will fall into place at its time, don’t stress everything and let the process roll. You will always be a great mother!
